MADASAN'S SIXTH GRADE GRADUATION

Receiving awards

2008 Sixth Grade Graduates
I had one graduate from high school on Friday night and one graduate from the sixth grade today. Madasan would love to have missed the whole ceremony but just had to be there. She had much rather be at the barn working with her cows. She is something else. I'm surprised she didn't wear those favorite boots that she wears everywhere.

SHEYANNE GRADUATES 5-23-2008

Sheyanne receiving her diploma.
Meme Marci and Papaw Danny came to Sheyanne's graduation. They are my daughter's birth parents.

Grandmother Nonna

Grandmother Granny Muse

Sheyanne was privileged to have three grandmothers present at her graduation. Meme's brother and his family also drove up from near Camden to join in the celebration.
*
I was expecting tears but it turned out to be a happy occasion. I knew if Sheyanne cried I would cry but she was very brave and held back the tears.

ELIJAH GETS A STANDING OVATION

I have always been a sucker for special children. The one I want to tell you about truly touched my heart strings and those of the others in attendance at the All-Sport Banquet. Elijah is a very special young man but on this night he got up the nerve to stand before the crowd and express his feelings for all those that had helped him during his school years. The amazing thing about the whole thing was that no one told him to make this speech, he just got up there and spoke from his heart and what he had to say touched everyone.

Summarizing his talk he said, “I’m really scared but I wanted to thank everyone that has helped me through the years in this school. I have had a lot of trouble and most of you know about what has happened to me but I won’t go into that. I came to live with my grandparents when I was six and have been in this school since.

All of my life I have wanted to be a king and this year I got to be the king. I prayed and prayed that I could be king and I prayed that Sheyanne would be my queen and all of that came true. My prayers were answered. I couldn’t believe it. This was a very special thing that happened in my life and I want to thank everyone for that honor and for everything else they have done for me.”

These are not his exact words but some of what he had to say. No one expected Elijah to get up before this group and make such a sweet talk. When he finished everyone stood and clapped for him.

I was taking pictures of Sheyanne and some of the others and Elijah asked me to take his picture with Sheyanne. As I got them together for the photo several of the other girls wanted in the picture. You can see the sheer happiness on Elijah’s face. (The award he is holding was given to him for participating in basketball.)

As I was leaving he came up to me and asked me to make him a copy of the picture with Sheyanne.

(Elijah has been on my blog before as King of the Prom.)

SECOND BEST IN STATE CLASS 2A

This picture tells it all. A sad Sheyanne with Coach Dave holding the second place trophy. Dierks' Sheyanne Muse tags Foreman's Christian Beasley on a rundown during the Class 2A state softball finals Saturday at LadyBack Field. Beasley was ruled safe due to an interference call. Foreman won their third straight title with a 3-0 victory. (Taken from the Texarkana Gazette, Sunday, May 18, 2008.)
*
This picture shows Sheyanne coming in from center field and tagging the Foreman player that was caught between first and second. Sheyanne got her but THEY said the first base player was interfering so she was safe. The player with the white visor is Sheyanne's cousin, Halee. The other two players are Reagan and Candy.
*
Softball ends for Sheyanne and her classmate, Whitney. They graduate on the 23rd but they close the season with the knowledge that they are the very first Lady Outlaw team to go so far and accomplish so much.

GOING TO THE STATE FINALS

The Lady Outlaws celebrate after defeating Parkers Chapel 5-3 in the Class 2A tournament Monday night at Rector, Arkansas. The win moves the Lady Outlaws to 16-7 overall this year. They will now face their conference rival Forman in the finals this Saturday in Fayetteville at Lady'back Yard.

Sheyanne was called out on this play but as you can see the ball was never in the glove of the Parkers Chapel player. (This picture shows why Coach Tipton calls her "Scooter".)

BIG WINNERS IN STATE FINALS

The Lady Outlaws and a few fans are in Paragould, AR tonight and will play in the final Monday night at 6:00 p.m. at Rector. Rector is a little town about 20 miles from Paragould. We won our game on Friday and then again today.
*
We are staying at the Best Western Motel and will be here until Tuesday morning. Since it is a six hour drive we plan to spend the night and return home on Tuesday.
*
Our boys also won in their game today. So both of our teams are in the finals. The teams that win here will play in Fayetteville to determine the State Champions. That is later on in the month.
*
This is the first time in the history of our school that the girl's softball team has gone this far in the State Finals. They are so excited.

NONNA HAVING FUUUUUUNNNNN!!!

It is surprising what a grandmother will do for her grandchildren. I hate the hot but here I sit with a bottle of water, my sun screen, my easy chair, an umbrella, my shoes off and I'm lovin' the game.
*
All of this took place after traveling three hours to get to the ballgame. Then we traveled three hours to return home, rested on Sunday and returned on Monday, spent the night and returned home after the game on Tuesday.
*
Now most people rushed home after such a trip but not my bunch. We just had to get back to Texarkana and eat at the Roadhouse. Still that wasn't enough, the girls wanted to just stop by the Mall for a little look. Sheyanne and Halee needed graduation dresses so this was such a good opportunity to check out Dillard's. So away they went with black paint still on their faces and wearing parts of their uniform. They just planned to be gone a few minutes so I stayed in the car. About an hour later they returned with a pair of Nikes. We FINALLY got home at 10:00 p.m.
*
Now tell me that Nonna's World is not exciting. If I survive the trip to Rector I will be surprised.
I may need prayers.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Outlaws played three games in Regional in Junction City and will be traveling to Rector to play in State. Rector is just a six hour drive that everyone is dreading. (The boys are playing at Pine Bluff.) The games start on Friday.

*

This is the second year the girls have gone to State. Everyone is hoping they make it to the Finals in Fayetteville.

MORE PROM PICTURES

2008 Seniors at Prom

Sheyanne got her prom pictures in from the photographer and I couldn't resist adding her picture to the blog. I also added a group picture of the seniors that attended the prom. Several of my teacher friends might find it interesting to see their former students all grown up. (How many can you name?)
