(Did you notice that I am the only one with gray hair???)
For the second year the retired teachers were invited to the elementary school for the Christmas Party. We had great food and enjoyed getting together with old friends and meeting some new ones.
I sneaked off to Texarkana all by myself today. I went to Dillard’s and bought me a new rig or two or three, went to Bryce’s for lunch, went to Sam’s and then hit the 2:25 p.m. movie. I saw Blind Side. It was a fantastic movie.
My only negative for the day was paying $3.75 for a bottle of water. That really gripes me. I guess they have to make money but that is ridiculous.
I got to the movie a little early. I zipped through Sam’s in a buggy so I made good time. I have come to the point of not being able to walk any distance so I decided to ride. It was so nice. I arrived at the theatre and went to the restroom…not one person was in there.I then went into theatre 8 …not one person was in there. Around 2:15 p.m. a few people arrived but sitting there in that BIG theatre alone was a tad spooky.
After the movie I went over to Kirkland’s and did a little shopping.By the time I got out of there it was almost dark. Traffic was terrible at this time so I decided to boogie on home.
I visited the cardiologist yesterday and he prescribed some new meds. I think I determined that if I was going to get out and do anything I had better get on with it. I would like to report that I had a great day and evidentially the new meds kicked in and I didn’t have any problems.
I have my tree up and everything decorated that can be decorated. I no longer do lights on the outside since climbing a ladder has become dangerous at my age. I would be just like Humpty Dumpty should I happen to fall.
Christmas is such a special time for me. It always brings back so many wonderful memories. While growing up my mom always made it a very special occasion. We didn’t always have big and elaborate gifts, many decorations but we did have an abundance of love. Mother always did everything in her power to make Christmas special for us. My dad just sat back and smiled at all of the hustle and bustle.
I didn’t always show my appreciation for her efforts. I remember that she worked so hard to get me a beautiful doll when I was about eight years old. The doll had a pink dress and bonnet. She was beautiful but when I opened the box and saw the doll I was so disappointed. I didn’t like dolls. I preferred a gun, a ball, a bow an arrow, a horse, etc. I will never forget the look on her face when she saw my disappointment. After that Christmas I never got another doll.
I finally learned to appreciate the gifts that were given with love. My husband gave me a gosh-awful ugly coat on our first Christmas. It was not anything I wanted to be seen in but he thought it was beautiful so I wore it.
There are so many wonderful memories that overshadow the minor little bad gift memories.I received many great gifts but stored back in my memory bank are those little bad experiences. Wonder why we do that?
I will always remember when our daughter came to live with us. She arrived in September at the beautiful age of three months. Our first Christmas with her was so special. She was young but since we had been married fifteen years, before her arrival, we were ready for some new excitement. She was just big enough to love the lights and the glitter of the decorations. We probably went overboard with gifts but we had been saving up for this child. From that Christmas on she always made our Christmases full of excitement.
I have many precious memories of my days at the elementary school. Secret Santa was a special treat each year. You never knew what might turn up in your mail box. Those were the days.
Now I have two granddaughters that carry on the tradition. They insist that I carry on the same traditions that I created with my daughter.
It is also a sad time because of the loved ones that are no longer with us.As I grow older the number continues to grow.
I want to wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my blog readers.I am a lousy writer and don’t always use the right verb and often let my participles dangle but I push on.(I’m so proud my friend Helen, doesn’t have a computer.)
My brother Richard is a grandfather. His daughter, Alicia, had a beautiful baby girl. She named her Ayden Leigh. She was born November 16 which was one day after Richard's birthday.
Seventeen of us gathered at the fellowship room to enjoy refreshments and reveal our Secret Sister.
Several months ago we were given a name and this was our Secret Sister. Gifts, notes, cards, etc., are given during the designated time and then we have a party to reveal the one that has been showering us with goodies.
We also had a recipe exchange. Each of us was to bring one of our favorite recipes and the ingredients to make it. We then played a Right/Left Game written into The Night before Christmas. Packages were shuffled around until the poem was completed. I got a chocolate calk recipe and ingredients from my dear friend, Edna. As soon as the batch of brownies is gone I will make it.
We enjoyed good food, good company and a relaxing good time.
Twenty three days two hours six minutes and forty nine seconds till Christmas. (When I checked a few minutes ago.) This day has been filled with all of the stuff that fills my life each day. I thought I would share a glimpse of what goes on in my world. Most of the time I tell you about my granddaughters but today I will tell you about MY DAY.
I got up around 8:30, had breakfast, got a bath and got dressed to go to the gym. Suzanne and I started going to the gym in Nashville two days per week so today was the day.I called her to check about what time we would leave and she was in the middle of tearing into her washer. It had not been working so I told her it could possibly be the filter. She picked today to find out.
Now remember I am ready at 9:30 a.m. just sitting and waiting for her to be ready. She called at 12:15 and said she was ready.
We left and on our way we decided to stop and see my new great niece that lives on our way to Nashville. We visited with her mom and got to hold her while she slept.
Finally we left and continued on our way to the gym. We arrived there around 1:30 p.m. and worked out for about an hour. After working so hard we had to have lunch so we hit Subway for sandwiches. Suzanne always tries something new and I always have the tuna with sweet pickled peppers.
After we ate our fill we went down to Wal-Mart and filled up the car and headed home. I stopped at the post office and got the mail and finally got home.
I had ordered me a air pistol to shoot pesky squirrels and two goats that stand on my front porch. I got the gun in the mail today and was anxious to try it out on Billy Tom that insists on chewing my door wreath.
I finally read the directions on how to make the gun work and went outside to try it out. The little female goat greeted me and I took a couple of shots at her and she headed to the back. I followed looking for Billy Tom and low and behold there he was with his feet sticking in the air as dead as could be. Something had already gotten to him. I knew the air pistol wouldn’t hurt him but would maybe scare him away from my porches but it was all in vain. HE WAS DEAD!
The girls got all excited over the unexpected death of Billy Tom (that is what they had named him). I was a tad disappointed that I didn’t get to scare him with the new gun. He would just dare you to scare him off and was in need of being taught a lesson. I missed my opportunity…
Now it was time to get ready for a gathering of the Bunco Babes. We were playing Bunco up at Rachel’s house.
Fifteen of us gathered to enjoy the night. Rachel had a great meal prepared for us and finally we got with the playing of Bunco. We always have such a fun and relaxing time and I always seem to embarrass myself one way or another. You can see from looking at the pictures that this is one crazy bunch.
This pretty much was my day.We got home around 8:45 and I settled in to watching Sherri on Life Time until I decided to write this book for my blog. What a day in the life of an old 73 year old broad!
My two beautiful granddaughters-Sheyanne and Madasan
Michale, Halton and Jo My brother, Thomas's family:Alan, wife Paula, Brian and Sonia Michiel, Joanna and son Halton Richard, Ronnie and Jo Ann Madasan and my daughter Suzanne.
Fourteen of my family gathered at my house to celebrate Thanksgiving supper. (Johnny, one of Alan's friends joined us.) My brother, Danny's family was absent so that cut our number down considerably.
We enjoyed the traditional foods that we have enjoyed for so long. Our mother was big on getting our family together. She made me promise that I would always continue this tradition as long as possible. She felt that family was important and it was very important for us to get together at least at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I am so thankful for my beautiful family and for having such great parents that taught us the importance of family and love for the Lord.
I have been pretty slow getting around to telling you about Madasan’s great success at the Arkansas State Fair. I was really waiting for her pictures to come in but since they are still not here I thought I would post now and wait for the pictures.
Madasan and her dad went up to Little Rock on Thursday and stayed until Sunday night. She showed Friday and her heifer and bull win their class. She then showed again and Oakie won Grand Champion Bull and Bess won Reserve Champion Heifer.
On Saturday she entered the Junior Showmanship and won that. The junior winner had to compete against the senior winner and she also won overall Showmanship.
A very funny thing happened during Showmanship. She said the judge told her to pull her bull out and reset him. During the turn she said there was dead weight. She looked back and Oakie had decided to plop himself down and take a rest. She went back and gently urged him up and continued with the show. The judge commented on the calm, cool way she went about getting her animal back to showing.
She came home so happy with all of her winnings but was so ready to be back home. Missing so much school during the fair season is rough and the keeping up with the homework is no fun.

My blog is becoming a collection of animals. I have bulls writing long post, dogs, cows having twins and horses but all of these critters are a part of my granddaughter’s life. Today I’m departing from the norm and showing you some of the fun stuff that has happened in our little town today. The rain has brought much excitement.
The 7 foot and 9 inch alligator was found in the Dierks Mill Yard this morning by two Weyerhaeuser employees. The AR Game and Fish Biologist came out to catch the big fellow. Biologist said the 200 pound gator was between 10-15 years old.
The next exciting thing the rain brought was the washed out road on the Dam Road. If the rain continues no telling what exciting news will develop in our little town.

Romeo left us but we continue to see him in the babies that are being born on the farm. This cow presented us with twins, a boy and a girl. They were enjoying a breakfast of warm milk this morning.
Every year my mother’s family has a reunion. She has one sister and one brother that remain out of ten children of Tom and Mary Green. They are in their eighties.
We had approximately 75 in attendance. Cousins came in from TX, LA, and OK.
Madasan and her animals have done quite well this year.
She left the local county fair and traveled to the Four States Fair and Livestock Show. While there the little heifer, she won in the calf scramble last year, won the Calf Scramble Show and Oakie won Grand Champion Bull.
Today she showed in the District Fair at Hope. Oakie won Grand Champion Bull and the heifer (I’ve got to learn her name.) won Reserve Champion. Madasan won Showmanship out of 22 entries.
The next adventure will be to enter the Arkansas State Fair. We are hoping Oakie is able to take Madasan into the Purple Circle Club for the fourth time.
My name is Oakie. I am a 1,900 pound Maine Anjou bull that belongs to Madasan. She has had me since I was about four months old and I am now nearly two years old.
I really have a cushy life. I am fed the best food so that my muscles will develop just right. I get regular grooming. Madasan bathes me and uses the blow dryer to dry me off…I love it. Before a big show Alan comes up and gives me a hair cut and trims what needs to be trimmed.
My last show season started last night. I made Madasan so proud with my performance. We entered the local county fair and I won Grand Champion Bull, Supreme Bull and helped Madasan win Showmanship in her age group. I held my head high and did exactly what Madasan wanted me to do. That judge was so impressed with Madasan for entering Showmanship showing a BIG bull.
Now I know I looked really good but let me tell you about that Madasan. She had that long blond hair all fluffed up and looked pretty spiffy herself. She made me so proud. I really like that girl. When I am out in the pasture I don’t like for the others to put the halter on me but Madasan just walks out and I can’t wait to put my head in the halter. I guess you could say I love that girl. I let her sit on my back, I lift my leg up if she scratches me in just the right spot and I always try to be on my best behavior with her. (Not so much with the others.)
I get a little jealous at times because Madasan has two horses that take up a little bit too much of her time. She has to practice on them much more than I have to practice and they take her off to Rodeos nearly every weekend. Now, that doesn’t seem fair to me because after all I am the one that is winning the awards.
Well I plan on keeping her busy for a while. We are leaving the county fair and going to the Four States Fair on Monday. Madasan won the Calf Scramble down there last year and won money to buy a calf. She has groomed that little heifer and will also show her in their show. I just hope I make her happy with my performance…I don’t know about that feisty little heifer.
Our next adventure will be to participate in the District Fair and then on to the AR State Fair. I helped Madasan get into the Purple Circle Club last year and am hoping I can get her there again this year. If we succeed that will be her fourth year to win this honor. That is the top honor in the State Fair.
At the completion of this season I will be retired. I will become one of the heard bulls on the Broken M Farm. I’m looking forward to this new life but will miss all of the tender loving care I receive as a show bull. Maybe I can help produce a few little ones that will be winners.
(This is my story as dictated to the boss of this blog.)

Romeo in training and not liking it.
Things around the farm are pretty sad. Sheyanne’s bull, Romeo, has been drooping around so they took him to the vet. After some test it was determined that he has leukemia.
Sheyanne showed Romeo and won several awards on him and finally he was turned out to be a heard bull. He has been doing his job for the past year but now he awaits either a terrible death or to be put down.
Sheyanne doesn’t want him to suffer so she decided that the vet would inject him and he would be buried down in the pasture. She is very sad but feels that this is the best thing to do.
I looked out this morning and saw the big, energetic, proud bull standing with his head down. He just mopes around feeling so bad. He is not the only one feeling bad. The whole family is so upset with what has happened to the big Romeo.
These pictures are of Romeo and Sheyanne during his glory days…
Sheyanne has returned to UACCH for her second year. She is taking 16 hours and commuting. She doesn’t have classes on Tuesday and Thursday but Monday’s schedule is a tough one. She has class from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and then goes back for class at 7:00 until 10:00.
Madasan went into the eighth grade. She has a good schedule and is enjoying junior high so much better than I thought she would. She loves basketball and really likes her new basketball coach.
Suzanne and the girls are going to rodeo’s nearly every weekend since Madasan is running barrels, poles and occasionally ropes. Madasan’s dad got her some calves to practice roping. They got Holstein calves because they are supposed to make good roping calves. Fair season is coming up so that means her schedule is really going to be crowded.
Suzanne and Brett now have chickens and have started getting eggs. They have two layer houses and manage two other layer houses for a neighbor.
My brother Ronnie had a stroke and stayed in the hospital for twenty-six days. He returned home and is receiving physical therapy at home. The stroke caused his left leg to quit working properly. He is mostly confined to a wheel chair. The doctor told him he would have to reprogram his brain. He is gradually learning to walk again but still must use a walker.
My life is pretty drab these days. I get my hair fixed on Friday and have lunch with four of my friends. We usually sit around and talk for an hour or two and then I often go to Nashville or DeQueen for some shopping. What a life!
Iris, Nancy, Julia, Sue, Ann and I went out on the town tonight. We left the big city around 4:00 p.m. and traveled to Texarkana to see Julie and Julia. We had mixed reviews on the movie. Some of us didn’t think it was so hot and some loved it.
Iris was our driver and with the new highway work we had great fun finding our exit. She decided to take the route we knew instead of finding out if there was an exit closer to the theatre. After we got down to the turnoff to the movie we saw the new exit coming into our highway. Next time….
After the movie we had some discussion on where we wanted to eat. Some suggested a sandwich/salad place but the two old ones wanted something better so we went to the TX Roadhouse. We didn’t have to wait because they were closing at 8:00 p.m. for their eleven year anniversary. They started rolling up the rugs and cleaning before we finished. We decided we had better head home before our waiter got any friendlier. He especially liked one of our group.
We were entertained on our way down with one of Iris’s favorite Mike Snider CDs. How funny is that guy???
We missed some of our crew because of previous engagements. Maybe next time…
Look real close at this one. They will probably kill me for putting it on the blog but I couldn't resist. This is one of their goats that they got for Madasan to learn rope and tie for competition. After they got her they discovered that she was expecting. She had her little baby but it was dead. This left a mama goat with a full bag of milk. They watched her several days being miserable and decided to milk her.
*
They tied her to Madasan's roping dummy, put her feet in a feed bucked and milked away. They don't know that goat milk is quite a delicacy with some but this went to the puppies.
Sheyanne celebrated her 19Th birthday with the Muse Family this year. This is the first time I have ever missed celebrating her birthday with her. I did make her a Lemonade Cake, which is her favorite and she enjoyed it the next day.
*
All of the Muse family took her to Pablano's Mexican Restaurant for the birthday celebration. They sent me a video of the occasion. The waitresses had instruments and really performed for her while singing Happy Birthday.
*
Sheyanne is planning to live at home this year and continue in her second year of college at UACCH. She will drive back and forth each day. That should be interesting. She will be taking 16 hours and is really looking forward to Chemistry. (Not)
*
She took Anatomy and Physiology II at Texarkana College this summer and was thrilled to pass that class.

This is Beaver's Hideaway over at Beaver's Bend. Suzanne and family are spending a few days there enjoying a little peace and quiet away from the chickens and other animals. The girls loved the hot tub, swimming and all of the beautiful scenery this area provides.
This nice rattler was visiting around the barn area while the girls were feeding their animals. After MUCH running and screaming the Great White Hunter came to the rescue with his trusty pistol and blasted the rascal. I just hope the mate is not hiding behind a feed sack. Creepy!
