WELCOME TO NONNA'S WORLD

For 39 years I was know as Jo Ann, Big Boss or Mrs. Walters but in 1990 I became "Nonna". Now almost anywhere I go I hear, "Hey, Nonna!" You see my granddaughter refused to call me Momma Jo. She insisted upon "Nonna". So that has become my name to many.

Beside my family, my friends, and my religion I guess my greatest claim to fame has been having a school named after me. One year before I retired my teachers, the administration and the schoolboard decided to name the elementary school in my honor. It is Jo Ann Walters Elementary School. Wow! What an honor that was.

So here I am in the winter of my life. I want to be prepared for whatever comes and pray that my life will have some meaning to those that follow. For my remaining days I don’t plan on counting days but making the days count. I know not what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future. I now look to the future because that’s where I’m planning to spend the rest of my life.

MY FAMILY-THE HOWARDS

This picture was taken two days before my mom passed away. This was taken March 10, 1989 at my parent's home. Since then my dad and two brothers passed away. This is a picture of my teachers/staff in 1997. This was two years before I retired. This was a great group of ladies that helped to make my job so rewarding.

This is me and my handsome husband, Billy J. The one in the background was little brother, Danny. He managed to get into most pictures. (1954)

MY BESSSTTTEEESSST FRIEND, IRIS!

Iris is my very good friend. We chat nearly every day and most of all she makes me laugh. In this picture she is being escorted from the elementary school on her very last day. (Mark was her escort.) She joined the ranks of retired teachers and is very happy with that decision.

This is Edna Cox and Helen Berg, two of my very good friends. Edna is a retired history teacher and Helen is a retired English teacher. We worked in the Dierks School System from the beginning of our careers. We were also cheerleaders in high school together. Now our friendship continues into retirement.
